Professional maize protection against perennial grasses using a proven systemic nicosulfuron-based formula.
Description
Systemic weed control in maize crops
SAMSON 040 SC from the French manufacturer Arista LifeScience S.A.S. is a gold-standard post-emergence herbicide based on nicosulfuron. Unlike soil-applied alternatives, this product acts through the leaf surface, making it an indispensable tool when weeds have already passed the seedling stage and the crop requires immediate protection.
Mechanism of action: the molecular level
The active ingredient nicosulfuron belongs to the sulfonylurea chemical class. Its key technical advantage is the inhibition of the acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme. In practical terms, this means that as soon as the plant absorbs the product, the synthesis of vital amino acids (valine and isoleucine) is blocked. Consequently, cell division at the weed's growth points stops within hours of application. Visible signs of death, such as chlorosis and necrosis, appear within 3–5 days, with complete elimination of competitors occurring within two weeks.
Technological features of the formulation
The «Suspension Concentrate» form ensures high particle dispersion, which is critical for uniform coverage of the leaf blade:
- Spray solution stability: the product does not precipitate and prevents nozzle clogging in sprayers.
- Penetration: high adhesion properties allow the active ingredient to rapidly penetrate the waxy cuticle of weeds.
- Selectivity: as a selective herbicide, SAMSON 040 SC effectively eliminates couch grass (Elymus repens), annual/perennial grasses, and a wide range of broadleaf weeds without suppressing the maize crop, provided application protocols are followed.
Application guidelines
For maximum biological efficacy, apply the product once at a rate of 1 to 1.25 L/ha. Due to its systemic nature, the herbicide translocates throughout the weed, including the root system of rhizomatous grasses like couch grass, preventing regrowth. It is crucial to note that peak efficacy is achieved during the weeds' active growth phase, when they are most susceptible to the influence of sulfonylureas.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
