In modern commercial vegetable production, efficiency and crop safety are non-negotiable. The insecticide "Benevia," manufactured by DuPont International Operations Sarl (Switzerland), introduces a high-performance solution based on cyantraniliprole. Unlike traditional insecticides that rely on broad-spectrum knockdown, Benevia acts as a specialized tool for both systemic and contact protection.

What sets Benevia apart?

The product's core strength lies in its unique mode of action on insect ryanodine receptors. This mechanism causes the pests to stop feeding almost immediately, preventing further damage to the crop long before the insect dies. Because it acts systemically and has translaminar properties, it effectively protects parts of the plant that might have been missed during the spraying process.

• Broad Control Spectrum: Specifically designed to target Lepidoptera and other difficult pests like thrips, aphids, cabbage moths, and Colorado potato beetles.
• Weather Resilience: Its ability to penetrate leaf tissue quickly makes it highly resistant to wash-off, ensuring consistent protection even under challenging weather conditions.
• Resistance Management: Being a member of the anthranilic diamide chemical class, it is a crucial component in rotational programs designed to prevent pests from developing resistance to pyrethroids or organophosphates.

Application Strategy

Benevia is formulated as a suspension concentrate, making it easy to mix and apply via foliar spraying. It is specifically optimized for crops such as onions, cabbage, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, and potatoes. With a flexible application rate of 0.15–0.75 L/ha, growers can customize the treatment based on local infestation levels. Note that the product is limited to a maximum of 2 applications per season, which encourages careful strategic planning in integrated pest management (IPM) programs.

Strengths: Immediate feeding cessation, excellent systemic activity, and highly effective against hidden pests. Weaknesses: Restricted to two applications per season, necessitating the use of alternative insecticide classes for long-season protection.
