Description
The Santoro lettuce represents an early heading lettuce variety recommended for planting in early summer and autumn. This variety is distinguished by a large, wide head with a large rosette and a medium-green, 'glowing' color of the outer leaves. The leaves are thick and oily to the touch, giving the lettuce a tender texture and pleasant taste. The head forms slowly, starting from a weight of about 400 grams, and even with less intensive cultivation reaches significant sizes. The base of the head is flat, beautiful, and healthy, making the variety attractive to both consumers and processing enterprises, as the head easily breaks down into individual leaves.
Santoro possesses high resistance to various diseases, which significantly eases plant care and contributes to obtaining stable and generous yields. The variety is resistant to bolting and glassiness, especially in the autumn period, and also demonstrates a high degree of resistance to downy mildew, green lettuce aphid, and lettuce root aphid. In addition, it has a medium degree of resistance to lettuce mosaic virus, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions.
For successful cultivation of Santoro lettuce, sowing in open ground is recommended from mid-March to early June, as well as from late July to late August. When proper care and growing conditions are observed, this variety exhibits its best qualities, allowing its use both fresh and for culinary experiments. Thanks to its taste characteristics and disease resistance, Santoro remains one of the most popular and in-demand lettuce varieties.
