VIR 68 is a medium-maturing cultiure with a growing season ranging from 94 to 112 days. The plant reaches a height of up to 70 cm, has an erect bush, white flowers, and yellow round seeds with weak ribbing. The mass of 1000 seeds varies from 218 to 282 grams, while the seeds are characterized by uniformity and high culinary rating. The protein content in seeds reaches 25%, making this variety valuable in terms of nutritional quality.
VIR 68 was bred at the Catherine’s Experimental Station of the All-Russian Institute of Genetic Resources of Plants named after N.I. Vavilov and recommended for cultivation in the Tambov region and other regions with a warm climate. The variety is distinguished by high yield - the average indicator in the Tambov region is 24.6 c/ha, and the maximum yield reached 29.2 c/ha. The plant is resistant to lodging and shattering, which contributes to crop preservation.
Special attention is paid to the variety's resistance to diseases: VIR 68 shows high resistance to ascochitis and is not affected by other diseases during trials. Despite the fact that drought resistance is somewhat lower than the standard Volgograd 10, the variety is able to withstand unfavorable conditions and ensure a stable yield. Thanks to the combination of high productivity, disease resistance, and excellent nutritional characteristics, VIR 68 is a promising choice for agricultural production.
