Spring oat variety ROVESNIK is a mid-early hulled variety for grain-forage purposes, developed by chemical mutagenesis from the Novosibirsk 88 variety. The plants are of medium height (100-110 cm) with a one-sided white panicle with a yellowish tint and short, thin white awns. The grain is large, uniform, with a 1000-seed mass of 41-51 g, and medium hulling rate of about 28-31%. The vegetative period is approximately 68 days, which allows the variety to be used in various climatic conditions of the Western Siberia and Eastern Siberia regions. The ROVESNIK variety is distinguished by high yield – in variety trials average figures reached 42-53.7 c/ha, while the maximum yield reached 63.2 c/ha in the forest-steppe zone. It has good resistance to lodging and is not prone to grain shedding, which facilitates harvesting by direct combine harvesting. Drought resistance of the variety is medium, and disease resistance varies: the variety is slightly susceptible to crown rust and powdery bunt, however, it may be affected by bacterial burn and stem rust under certain conditions. Recommended for sowing in the forest-steppe zone and foothill subtaiga of Western Siberia with an optimal sowing rate of 4.5-5.0 million viable grains per hectare and sowing term from May 12 to 15. The variety responds well to mineral nutrition, which allows increasing yield with the correct agrotechnical approach. Protein content in the grain is about 17.6%, which makes it valuable for feed purposes in agriculture.
