Velikoustugsky family onion is a multi-bulb variety, where one head forms 4 to 10 small, round bulbs weighing up to 80 grams each. The bulbs have a brown-red hue, dense structure, and a sharp or semi-sharp taste, making this onion a true northern masterpiece. The nest weight ranges from 150 to 300 grams, while the leaves are thin, tender, and very tasty, allowing them to be harvested early for greens. This variety boasts high yield and early maturity: harvest can be collected just 50-70 days after planting.

Velikoustugsky onion is renowned for its excellent storage quality—bulbs retain their qualities for 10-12 months without losing density or taste, unlike regular bulb onions which may shrivel or rot during this period. This allows for long-term storage at home, and in March, you can plant a bulb in a container to get fresh greens right on the windowsill. The onion reproduces vegetatively, similar to garlic and potatoes: planting one bulb can yield up to ten large, high-quality bulbs by the end of the season.

This family onion is versatile in use: it is used for frying, stewing, pickling, making jam, and eaten fresh in salads due to its sweet and tender taste.
