Description
Charunka potato variety belongs to early-maturing table types with a maturation period of 40 to 70 days depending on growing conditions. The plants of this variety are tall, upright, and well-branched, with medium-sized leaves and white flowers. Tubers have a round-oval shape, yellow skin with slight roughness, and white or cream-colored flesh. The average tuber weight ranges from 100 to 128 grams, and the eyes are shallow, facilitating cleaning. Starch content varies from 12.5% to 17.5%, making this variety suitable for preparing soupy dishes due to its high taste qualities, rated at 3.6–3.8 points. The yield of Charunka is sufficiently high and dynamic: by day 40–45 after emergence, it reaches about 16 tons per hectare, and by the end of the vegetation period, it can amount to 365–410 centners per hectare. The variety is well adapted for cultivation in various climatic zones, including Polissia, Forest Steppe, Steppe, and southern regions. Due to its high dynamic yield accumulation and potential for cultivation as a double-crop, Charunka is a profitable choice for farmers aiming to obtain an early and abundant harvest. The variety exhibits good resistance to a range of diseases and pests. It is resistant to potato cancer, highly resistant to viral diseases and tuber rust, and resistant to common scab. It is relatively resistant to tuber late blight and moderately resistant to leaf late blight, stem nematode, and ring rot. Additionally, the variety has good storability after harvest and moderate resistance to mechanical damage, facilitating storage and transportation of the crop.
