DEZIRÉ

The Desire potato variety is a versatile mid-late maturing Dutch selection, characterized by high yield and good consumer qualities. The plant is spreading, with dark green matte leaves and reddish-purple flowers, which bloom for an extended period. The tubers are oval-shaped with a dense red skin and light-yellow flesh, which has a slightly sweet taste, is not watery, and does not darken when cut or subjected to thermal processing. Each plant produces 18 to 20 tubers weighing 52 to 104 grams, with starch content ranging from 13.5–21.5%. The Desire variety is resistant to several diseases, including potato blight and viral infections, but is susceptible to golden nematode, phytophthora, and late blight. It is drought-tolerant, well-suited for transport, and has high storability — up to 95%. It is recommended to grow on light sandy soils with neutral acidity, with optimal spacing of 35 cm between plants and 75 cm between rows. For maximum yield, the variety responds well to fertilization and irrigation, but poorly withstands soil frost. The vegetation period is 80–95 days, making it suitable for regions with a warm climate. Desire potatoes are suitable for various preparation methods: boiling, mashing, baking, stewing, and frying. The flesh contains high concentrations of protein, mineral salts, amino acids, and carotene, making this variety not only delicious but also nutritious. Due to its characteristics and resistance to diseases, Desire is an excellent choice for farm and household plots.
