Description
Mystery — a mid-season variety of table potato, developed by the Institute of Potato Breeding of NAAN Ukraine. This variety is characterized by high yield and stable performance across different years. The tubers have a round-oval shape, with a deep purple or raspberry-colored skin, smooth surface, and small eyes. The flesh is yellow, sometimes with raspberry streaks, giving the potato an attractive appearance. Starch content is 14–17%, ensuring moderate mashability and pleasant taste, making this variety versatile for boiling and frying (culinary type B).
Mystery variety exhibits high resistance to major potato diseases, such as late blight, phytophthora, stem nematode, and alternaria. It also shows drought tolerance and adapts well to various agroclimatic zones of Ukraine, including Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe. Under each plant, approximately 10–12 medium-sized tubers weighing 100–110 g form, ensuring a stable and high yield.
Mystery potato has good storability and retains its taste quality and market appearance for 7–8 months under proper storage conditions. It does not rot in the soil or in storage, and does not sprout easily, making it convenient for long-term storage and long-distance transportation. Due to its characteristics, this variety is an excellent choice for farms that value quality, yield, and resistance to adverse conditions.
