Description
Potato variety Salut is a mixture of mid-season table varieties with distinctive coloring of both tuber skin and flesh. Plants are semi-erect, medium height, with vibrant color variations during flowering, enhancing their decorative appeal. Tubers are oval or elongated-oval in shape, with small to medium-depth eyes. Skin color may be white, yellow, red, burgundy, or dark purple; flesh color may be white, yellow, brown, reddish, light or dark purple. Tubers weigh between 75 to 156 grams, with excellent flavor quality. Yield per square meter ranges from 4.5 to 5.5 kg, corresponding to market yield of 174–419 centners per hectare, surpassing standard varieties. Marketability reaches 86%, and storage quality is 94%, ensuring good harvest preservation. Starch content in tubers is approximately 14.5%, making this potato versatile for various culinary uses. The multicolored Salut potato is ideal for making salads, borscht, okroshka, and other dishes, thanks to its diverse hues and excellent taste. The variety is resistant to potato cancer and mosaic disease, but susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode and late blight on foliage, and moderately susceptible on tubers. For healthy seed production, seedlings should be grown from seeds using the seedling method. Seeds are sown in April at 18–22ºC, with germination occurring within 8–12 days. Seedlings are thinned at two-leaf stage and transplanted into open ground at the end of May–beginning of June, following a planting scheme of 70x20–25 cm. Proper care, including watering, fertilization, weeding, loosening, hilling, and pest control (especially Colorado beetle), is essential. Harvesting is conducted at the end of August–beginning of September.
