Description
The Zhukovsky Early potato variety is a Russian selection developed at the Podmoskovny Institute of Potato Growing named after Lorha. This variety is characterized by its early maturity: when planted in early May, the first harvest can be obtained as early as 60-65 days later, in mid-July. The plant is of medium height with a semi-spreading form, which promotes good tuber development and high yield, reaching up to 4.5 kg per plant or 400-450 centners per hectare.
The tubers of Zhukovsky Early have a round-oval, bottle-shaped form with an average weight of about 100-120 grams. Their skin is pink with pink-lilac eyes, and the flesh is nearly snow-white with a slight yellow tint. In terms of taste, the potato is slightly sweet, making it versatile for various culinary purposes: it is excellent for boiling and frying, without breaking down or losing shape. Thanks to its good market appearance, the tubers look attractive and appealing.
One of the key features of this variety is its hardiness and high resistance to adverse conditions. Zhukovsky Early grows well on various soils and in different climatic zones, including arid southern regions where other varieties often suffer from heat. It is resistant to diseases such as potato blight, late blight, and golden nematode, and also has moderate resistance to bacterial diseases, rhizoctonia, and mosaic viruses. These qualities make it a reliable choice for cultivation both on private homesteads and in small farms.
