Description
BASHKIRSKAYA SHORT-STEMMED — a winter triticale variety bred in 2003 at the Bashkir Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture. This variety was created by crossing winter wheat Albidium 114 with the rye variety Chulpan and further transferring the hybrid to the tetraploid level followed by pollination with productive hexaploid triticale forms. The plant is characterized by a short stem height of 83 to 120 cm, which ensures high resistance to lodging. The ear is white, cylindrical, 10–12 cm long, dense and semi-branched. The mass of 1000 grains varies from 42.5 to 50.4 g, the grain is large, elongated, and light-red in color.
The variety exhibits high winter hardiness and resistance to various diseases, including powdery and solid bunt, powdery mildew, brown and stem rust, as well as moderate resistance to snow mold and root rots. The vegetative period ranges from 307 to 339 days, corresponding to average heading time. Protein content in the grain reaches 14.4%, indicating good crop quality.
BASHKIRSKAYA SHORT-STEMMED is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Volga-Vyatka, Central Volga, and Ural regions. Average yield in the Republic of Bashkortostan is about 33 c/ha, with maximum indicators reaching 75 c/ha and above. Due to its characteristics, the variety is widely used in agriculture to obtain stable and high-quality winter triticale crops.
