Diseases and host crops: The primary host for this pathogen is rice (Oryza sativa). The disease, commonly known as Ascochyta leaf spot, manifests as distinct necrotic lesions on leaves and leaf sheaths. These symptoms weaken the plant by reducing the active photosynthetic area, which is critical for grain filling and overall biomass accumulation.
Biology and lifecycle: The pathogen survives the off-season in infected crop residues, soil, and occasionally in seed lots as pycnidia or mycelium.
