As a versatile fungus, it acts as both a saprophyte and a facultative parasite, capable of infecting a broad range of hosts, primarily grasses and cereal crops.
This pathogen is responsible for various plant diseases, including leaf spots, seedling blights, crown rots, and seed discolorations (often called "black point"). Major host crops include wheat, barley, maize, sorghum, and rice. The fungus affects different plant tissues, leading to necrotic lesions that can severely hinder photosynthesis and negatively impact plant vigor and overall yield potential.
