Comoclathris pentamera is a species of ascomycetous fungi within the kingdom Fungi. As a specialized phytopathogen, it primarily targets various woody species, causing significant stress to the host plants. This fungus is responsible for various necrotic lesions and tissue dieback in affected crops. Once environmental conditions allow, the fungus germinates and colonizes the host, subsequently producing conidia for secondary cycles of infection, which can continue throughout the entire growing season depending on climatic stability.

High moisture levels, such as those caused by frequent rainfall or fog, are critical for the spore germination and infection process.
