It is a well-known plant pathogen responsible for causing brown spot disease in soybeans. This fungus operates by invading plant tissues, leading to localized necrotic lesions that impair the plant's physiological functions.
Diseases and crops: The primary host of this pathogen is soybean (Glycine max). The disease manifests as irregular, brown-to-dark-brown spots on the leaves, petioles, stems, and pods. In severe cases, these spots coalesce, causing leaves to turn yellow and abscise prematurely, which can significantly reduce the overall photosynthetic capacity of the canopy.
Biology and disease cycle: The pathogen survives the winter in infected crop residues and can be seed-borne. During the growing season, conidia are produced and spread through splashing rain or wind currents.
