The genus Galea represents a group of fungal organisms classified as ascomycetes that act as specialized plant pathogens. These microorganisms target the physiological tissues of various woody and perennial plants, causing significant structural damage and disrupting the host's metabolic functions.

The pathogen is known for infecting a variety of agricultural crops, including fruit trees and nursery stock. Infection symptoms typically manifest as localized lesions, tissue deformation, and the inhibition of normal shoot development.
