Hannon (Hannon) is a group of microscopic organisms classified in modern phytopathology as obligate parasites capable of infecting a wide range of vascular plants. Systematically, this genus belongs to the kingdom Chromista, phylum Oomycota. Unlike true fungi, this pathogen has a cellulosic cell wall and a specific life cycle, which aligns it with downy mildew-like organisms.
The main crops at risk of being infected by this pathogen are cereal grains and certain greenhouse vegetables. The disease manifests as chlorotic spots on leaf blades, which eventually become necrotic. In cases of severe infection, premature wilting occurs, leading to significant crop yield losses and a reduction in the marketable quality of the produce.
The development biology of Hannon is closely related to substrate moisture levels and temperature. The life cycle includes the formation of zoospores, which move in liquid water and penetrate host tissues through stomata or mechanical damage to the epidermis.
