Hemicycliophora uniformis is a species of ectoparasitic nematode that represents a significant threat to various agricultural crops. Taxonomically, it is classified under the phylum Nematoda, class Secernentea, order Tylenchida, and family Hemicycliophoridae. As a specialized phytopathogen, it primarily inhabits the rhizosphere of host plants.
This nematode causes damage to the root systems, leading to the inhibition of root hair elongation and the development of necrotic lesions. Plants affected by Hemicycliophora uniformis exhibit stunted growth, yellowing (chlorosis), and reduced productivity. The disruption of nutrient and water uptake through the damaged roots makes the plants highly vulnerable to environmental stressors.
The life cycle of the nematode involves the egg stage, four larval stages, and the adult stage. It uses a specialized stylet to puncture plant root cells and feed on their contents. The duration of the life cycle is highly dependent on environmental conditions, particularly soil moisture and temperature, with optimal development occurring in warm, moist, and well-aerated soils.

Due to its micro-scale size and soil-dwelling nature, early detection is difficult, and often the presence of the nematode is confirmed only after significant crop damage is observed.

Essential strategies include implementing long-term crop rotation, ensuring the use of certified pathogen-free planting material, maintaining soil health with organic matter, and utilizing nematicides if the population density exceeds economic threshold levels.
