Phloeospora multimaculans is a fungal pathogen classified within the kingdom Fungi and the order Capnodiales, responsible for causing leaf spot disease in walnut trees (Juglans regia). This pathogen specifically targets the foliage, leading to necrosis and premature defoliation, which severely compromises the physiological balance of the host plant.
The primary clinical manifestation of this pathogen is the development of numerous small, often irregular, dark-colored spots on the leaves. As the infection progresses, these lesions merge, covering larger areas of the leaf surface. In late stages, the tissue dries out and becomes brittle, eventually leading to the premature abscission of the leaves, which hinders nut development.
