Affected crops and diseases: The fungus affects a wide variety of deciduous trees, including fruit species like apple, pear, and plum, as well as various ornamental trees. It is the causal agent of white rot, which deteriorates wood tissues, leading to structural instability and internal degradation of the woody parts of the plant.

Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of Schizophyllum commune involves the formation of fan-shaped fruiting bodies with unique split gills. The fungus produces basidiospores that are dispersed by wind.
