Apsylla is a genus of insects belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Psyllidae. Among the species within this genus, Apsylla cistellata is recognized as a significant agricultural pest, particularly in mango-growing regions across the Asian continent, where it poses a persistent threat to fruit production.

The primary host for this pest is the mango tree (Mangifera indica). The insect specifically targets the terminal buds and tender shoots of the tree. By feeding on these critical growth points, the pest disrupts the plant's normal physiological development, leading to stunted growth and reduced crop yields.

The life cycle of Apsylla is intrinsically linked to the flushing period of the mango tree. Females lay eggs inside the tissues of dormant or emerging buds. Upon hatching, the larvae trigger an abnormal growth response in the plant tissue, resulting in the formation of galls, which provide the larvae with a protected environment for feeding and development.
