As a microscopic soil-dwelling pest, it acts as an obligate parasite, feeding primarily on the root systems of agricultural crops and causing significant physiological stress to the host plants.

This pest affects a wide range of crops, including cereals, grasses, and various vegetables. By colonizing the root zone, Bitylenchus depressus feeds on the cortical cells of the roots, which disrupts the transport of water and essential minerals from the soil to the upper parts of the plant, directly impacting overall biomass production.
