This parasite is highly host-specific, exclusively affecting dromedary and Bactrian camels. It is widely distributed across the arid and semi-arid regions of Africa and Asia, where it serves as the primary agent of cephalopinosis.

The biology of this species is remarkable for its reproductive strategy. The female is larviparous, meaning it deposits live, first-instar larvae directly into the nostrils of the camel while in flight. This behavior is highly distressing to the animals, causing them to exhibit frantic head-shaking and sneezing as they attempt to dislodge the larvae before they migrate deeper into the nasal passages.

Once inside, the larvae attach to the mucosa of the nasal cavities, pharynx, and even the guttural pouches using their oral hooks. The larval stage is prolonged, often lasting several months, during which they feed on the host's tissue secretions and blood. After completing their development, the mature larvae are expelled through sneezing and fall to the ground to pupate in the soil.

The impact of this pest on livestock is significant. Infested camels suffer from chronic rhinitis, respiratory distress, and secondary bacterial infections. Symptoms include profuse nasal discharge, swelling of the nasal mucosa, and labored breathing. In severe infestations, the animal's physical condition rapidly declines, leading to reduced productivity and chronic exhaustion.

Managing Cephalopina titillator requires a structured veterinary approach to reduce the parasite burden in camel herds. Key control measures are:

• Strategic administration of systemic anti-parasitic drugs like ivermectin or doramectin.
• Timing treatments to coincide with the post-larval development period to break the life cycle.
