Damaged materials: This pest specifically targets dry wood. It commonly infests building frames, wooden flooring, antique furniture, and architectural timber. While they naturally occur in dead branches and tree trunks, they are frequently transported into human dwellings via infested wood products and cabinetry.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle of Cryptotermes dolei occurs entirely within the wood colony. The colony structure consists of distinct castes, including reproductives, soldiers, and pseudergates (immature workers). New colonies are typically established after swarming events, where winged alates seek out suitable crevices in wood to initiate the colony.

Nature of damage and pest status: These termites cause extensive internal damage while leaving the surface intact, which often hides the infestation until structural failure occurs. They create complex gallery systems inside wood. A hallmark sign of their presence is the accumulation of frass (fecal pellets) pushed out of small exit holes by the termites as they feed.

Control measures: Eradicating Cryptotermes dolei is difficult due to their concealed nature, necessitating professional intervention:
