The Eucalyptus psyllid (Ctenarytaina bipartita) is a sap-sucking insect belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Psyllidae. Originally native to Australia, it has become a significant invasive pest in many parts of the world where eucalyptus species are cultivated for forestry, ornamental, or essential oil production.
This pest primarily attacks the young leaves and shoots of various Eucalyptus species. By using its piercing-sucking mouthparts, the psyllid extracts vital nutrients from the host plant, which significantly impairs the growth and structural development of young trees and seedlings.
The life cycle of Ctenarytaina bipartita consists of eggs, several nymphal stages, and adults. Eggs are typically laid on the tender tips of developing shoots.
