This pest exclusively targets eucalyptus species, showing a preference for actively growing shoots and young foliage. Its host range includes a variety of eucalyptus trees, often causing severe physiological stress to saplings and younger trees that are unable to recover from intensive sap-sucking activity.

The biology of Eucalyptolyma maideni involves multiple developmental stages: egg, several nymphal instars, and the winged adult stage. Females typically lay their eggs on the surfaces of fresh, tender leaves. Upon hatching, the nymphs anchor themselves to the plant tissue and feed continuously, often completing their life cycle in a relatively short timeframe under favorable warm weather conditions.

The damage caused by these insects includes leaf curling, stunted growth, and the accumulation of honeydew. This honeydew serves as a substrate for sooty mold growth, which coats the leaves, physically blocking sunlight and hindering photosynthesis. In heavy infestations, trees may exhibit yellowing leaves, tip dieback, and reduced overall vigor.
