Longidorus orientalis is a significant plant-parasitic nematode belonging to the family Longidoridae within the order Dorylaimida. These nematodes are widely recognized as ectoparasites, meaning they remain outside the root tissues while using their long, needle-like stylets to feed on the root tips of various host plants.

This species is known to infest a broad range of agricultural crops, including vegetables, cereals, sugar beets, and perennial crops like grapevines and fruit trees. By targeting the root tips, they impede the plant's ability to take up water and nutrients, which is especially critical during the early stages of plant development.

The biology of Longidorus orientalis is characterized by a slow life cycle compared to other nematodes, but they are highly resilient. They prefer moist, well-aerated soils where they can migrate effectively toward the root zones. Population densities tend to fluctuate based on soil moisture and the presence of suitable host crops.
