Merlinius microdorus is a plant-parasitic nematode belonging to the order Tylenchida and the family Dolichodoridae. As an ectoparasite, this organism lives in the soil and feeds on the root surface, causing physiological stress to a wide variety of cultivated and wild plant species.
This pest primarily affects vegetable crops, cereals, and certain ornamental plants. By piercing the epidermal cells of the root system, it disrupts the nutrient uptake process. This damage is particularly detrimental during the early growth stages, often leading to reduced crop vigor and poor stand establishment.
