Host plants and damage: This termite species is a specialized wood-borer. It attacks living trees, dead standing timber, and structural wood. In agricultural practice, the pest often damages valuable forest timber and fruit orchards, leading to reduced tree vigor, diminished yields, and eventual tree death due to the extensive internal destruction of stem and trunk tissues.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle is characteristic of the Kalotermitidae family. Colonies develop entirely within the wood and do not require contact with the soil. The colony structure follows a complex caste system consisting of reproductive alates, soldiers, and pseudergates. Reproduction occurs through the swarming of winged individuals, which initiate new colonies in cracks, crevices, or natural tree cavities.

Damage patterns: The pest excavates a network of galleries within the wood, often leaving the external bark intact, which makes early detection extremely difficult. A hallmark sign of infestation is the presence of frass, appearing as small, uniform pellets ejected through tiny holes at the base of the tree or in bark crevices.
