Systematic position: The Sarcophilus flat mite (Tenuipalpus sarcophilus) belongs to the class Arachnida, order Acariformes, and the family Tenuipalpidae. These mites are often referred to as false spider mites because they do not produce the typical webbing associated with the better-known Tetranychidae family, making their detection more challenging in field conditions.

Crops: This species primarily targets woody plants, shrubs, and ornamental foliage. In horticultural settings, it is known to infest fruit-bearing trees and diverse ornamental species, often aggregating on the underside of leaves or in crevices of stems where they are protected from environmental fluctuations and natural predators.
