Trichotylenchus is a genus of plant-parasitic nematodes belonging to the phylum Nematoda, class Secernentea, order Tylenchida, and family Hoplolaimidae. These microscopic worms function primarily as ectoparasites, feeding on the epidermal cells of plant roots in the rhizosphere.

This pest affects a broad range of agricultural crops, including cereals and various vegetables. It is particularly problematic in moisture-retentive soils, where the nematodes can move freely through the soil water film to locate and attack the root systems of developing seedlings.

The biology of Trichotylenchus involves a life cycle consisting of eggs, four larval stages, and adults. These nematodes are highly adapted to soil conditions, where they can survive and remain dormant during unfavorable periods, resuming their parasitic activity as soon as host roots become available.

Damage caused by these nematodes is characterized by stunted root growth, necrosis, and reduced nutrient uptake.
