Description
Tylenchorhynchus claytoni is a microscopic ectoparasitic nematode belonging to the order Tylenchida and the family Dolichodoridae. These pests inhabit the soil and target the root systems of a wide range of agricultural crops, significantly hindering their development during early growth stages.
The list of crops susceptible to this parasite includes cereals, forage grasses, vegetables, and various ornamental plants and tobacco. The nematode thrives in light, sandy soils, which facilitate its movement toward the roots of host plants for feeding purposes.
The life cycle of the pest occurs entirely within the rhizosphere. Nematodes feed on the epidermal cells and root hairs by piercing them with their stylets and injecting digestive enzymes. Reproduction is sexual, and the rapid generation turnover under favorable soil temperatures allows the population to quickly reach damaging thresholds.
