Host plants: This nematode is a significant concern for forest nurseries and ornamental plantations. It primarily attacks coniferous species, including firs (Abies), spruces (Picea), and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). Its wide host range allows it to survive on various plant species, making eradication in infested soil challenging.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle of Xiphinema bakeri comprises an egg stage and four juvenile stages, with molting occurring between each stage. Development is strictly dependent on environmental conditions, particularly soil temperature and moisture levels. As ectoparasites, they do not enter the root tissue fully but use their specialized feeding apparatus to extract nutrients from the cortical cells of roots.
