Lambda-cyhalothrin

Description

Lambda-cyhalothrin is a highly active and effective insecticide belonging to the synthetic pyrethroid chemical class. It is widely used in global agriculture due to its strong contact and stomach action against a diverse range of agricultural pests, providing rapid results in protecting various crop types from significant yield losses.

The mode of action of lambda-cyhalothrin is primarily neurotoxic. It works by disrupting the sodium channels within the insect's nervous system. This disturbance interferes with the normal nerve impulse transmission, causing repetitive discharges, hyperexcitability, paralysis, and ultimately death shortly after the pest comes into contact with the treated plant tissue or ingests it.

This active ingredient is utilized on a broad range of crops, including cereals, corn, sunflower, sugar beet, potatoes, and various fruits and vegetables. It is particularly effective against chewing and sucking insects such as aphids, thrips, caterpillars, bollworms, and numerous beetle species, making it a versatile tool for integrated pest management programs.

  • Rapid knockdown effect.
  • Extended residual activity.
  • Good stability and resistance to rainfall.
  • Broad-spectrum pest control capability.

Proper application is crucial for success. It is recommended to ensure uniform spray coverage across the foliage. Applications should ideally occur during cooler times of the day—early morning or late evening—to minimize degradation caused by ultraviolet light and high temperatures, which can reduce the chemical's efficacy if applied under intense midday sun.

Safety is a priority, as lambda-cyhalothrin is highly toxic to aquatic life, bees, and other non-target beneficial insects. Users must follow strict label directions regarding buffer zones and timing to avoid harm to pollinators during flowering. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing and applying the product to prevent skin contact or inhalation exposure.
