Metiram

Description

Metiram is a modern active ingredient belonging to the dithiocarbamate chemical class. It is widely used in agriculture as a highly effective broad-spectrum contact fungicide. The product is essential for controlling a range of fungal diseases in intensive cultivation technologies for fruit, vegetable, and field crops.

The mode of action of metiram is based on the inhibition of metabolic processes in pathogen cells. The substance blocks the activity of enzymes containing sulfhydryl groups, disrupting the synthesis of amino acids, proteins, and lipids in fungal cells. This leads to the rapid inhibition of spore germination and the death of mycelium, while the development of resistance in pathogens is virtually excluded with proper use.

The main targets for metiram application are potatoes, tomatoes, apples, grapes, and onions. The product effectively protects crops and plantations from late blight, early blight, scab, downy mildew, and peronosporosis. Thanks to its contact action, it creates a protective shield on the surface of leaves and fruits, preventing primary and secondary infection by fungal spores.

When using this fungicide, it is critical to ensure uniform coverage of the entire leaf surface with the spray solution. Depending on the level of infestation and weather conditions, applications are carried out preventively or upon the first signs of disease. Metiram is relatively resistant to wash-off by rain when used with high-quality adjuvants, although repeat applications should be scheduled according to regulations, taking into account the duration of residual protection.

Handling metiram requires strict adherence to personal safety measures. The product is moderately hazardous to humans and beneficial insects, so personal protective equipment for the respiratory tract, eyes, and skin must be used when preparing the solution and spraying. It is important to prevent the substance from entering water bodies and to comply with buffer zones to minimize negative environmental impact.
