Description
Rape seed oil belongs to the class of contact insecticides and acaricides of natural origin. As an active ingredient, it consists of refined vegetable oil extracted from rapeseed, widely used in sustainable and organic farming to control a variety of pests on various agricultural and ornamental crops.
The mechanism of action of rape seed oil is based on physical rather than chemical activity. When sprayed onto the pest, the oil forms a thin film over the insect's or mite's body, physically blocking their spiracles (breathing pores). This causes the pests to die from suffocation, which makes the development of resistance virtually impossible.
The product is highly effective against aphids, whiteflies, spider mites, scale insects, and mealybugs. It is suitable for application on vegetables, fruit trees, vineyards, and decorative plants. A significant advantage is its ovicidal effect, meaning it can kill eggs and prevent the maturation of new generations of harmful pests.
Application requires thorough coverage of the entire plant surface, particularly the undersides of the leaves where pests often congregate. The spray should be applied until the foliage is completely wetted. It is highly recommended to perform treatments during cooler morning or evening hours to avoid potential phytotoxicity and heat-induced leaf scorch.
- Environmentally friendly profile with minimal impact on beneficial insects.
- No residue issues, often allowing harvest shortly after treatment.
- Physical mode of action prevents the build-up of pesticide resistance.
- Suitable for integrated pest management (IPM) and organic programs.
When using rape seed oil, strict safety precautions must be followed: do not apply during extreme heat, ideally keeping temperatures below 25–28°C. Avoid tank-mixing with sulfur-based products, as this combination can cause severe damage to plant tissue. Always prepare fresh spray solutions immediately before application to maintain the physical stability of the mixture.
