Hairy grama

Hairy grama (Bouteloua hirsuta Lag.) is a perennial grass belonging to the Poaceae family. Recognized for its resilience, it serves as a critical component of natural rangelands and is increasingly utilized in agricultural projects focused on drought-prone areas where traditional crops fail to thrive.

Native to North America, this species is widespread across the Great Plains and southwestern regions. It is highly adapted to semi-arid environments, thriving in climates characterized by long, hot summers and unpredictable rainfall, which highlights its importance for sustainable land management.

Morphologically, Hairy grama is a bunchgrass characterized by slender, hirsute (hairy) leaves and distinct comb-like inflorescences. The plant typically reaches heights between 20 and 50 cm.
