Pitch pine

Pitch pine (Pinus rigida Mill.) is a coniferous tree species belonging to the Pinaceae family. It is recognized for its remarkable hardiness and unique ecological role in various forest ecosystems. This species is highly valued in silviculture due to its ability to thrive in degraded environments and harsh climate conditions where other species often fail.

Native to eastern North America, the species range extends from southern Canada down to the United States. It is traditionally found in areas with sandy, gravelly, or nutrient-poor soils.
