Flamenko

The "Flamenco" lentil variety is a high-yielding and lodging-resistant type created through inter-species hybridization with the wild Lens tomentosus. Through multiple individual selections from the hybrid population, it has acquired excellent merchant and culinary qualities, as well as stable seed coloration: brown flat grains with an unchanged color scheme during storage.

Botanically, "Flamenco" belongs to the iberica m. subspecies. Plants reach a height of 35–59 cm, have elongated-oval leaflets, and white flowers with blue veins on the sail, gathered in inflorescences of two to three. Seeds of medium size develop in yellow cotyledons, and seedlings are colored with anthocyanins. The mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 44 to 56 g.

From an agronomic perspective, the variety is characterized by medium ripeness: the vegetation period is 78 days, while the grain cooks six minutes faster than the standard, and the total cooking time is about 60 minutes. Resistance to root rots and ascochitis makes it suitable for a wide range of climatic conditions. Yield in competitive trials reached 2.68 t/ha, which is 0.2 t/ha higher than the Aida standard, and the average yield over three years is 2.22 t/ha.

The protein content in the grain ranges from 25.4% to 28.5%, which makes "Flamenco" a valuable source of nutrients. Due to the combination of high yield, pest resistance, and excellent culinary properties, this variety is the preferred choice for farmers seeking maximum economic results in lentil cultivation.
