ONITCA NISKI BELYI

Onitca Niski Belyi — technical grape variety of late ripening, bred by Moldovan breeders. The period from bud break to technical berry ripeness is about 167 days at a sum of active temperatures of 3000–3100°C. Bushes are vigorous, with good shoot ripening (up to 90%), leaves are medium-sized, five-lobed, slightly dissected, dark green and netted-wrinkled, hairless underneath. Bunches are medium-sized, cylinder-conical, dense, weighing 225–255 g, berries are light green, slightly oval with thin and tough skin, juicy flesh with a characteristic variety aroma.

The variety is characterized by increased frost resistance, withstands temperature drops to -28°C without damage. It has complex resistance to major fungal diseases — downy mildew, powdery mildew, gray rot, and also has some resistance to root phylloxera. Thanks to these qualities, Onitca Niski Belyi can be grown without the use of chemical protection, which significantly simplifies agronomy and reduces care costs.

The main use of the grape is for the production of white table wines and sparkling wine materials, as well as juices. The yield of the variety varies depending on growing conditions and agronomy and averages from 140 to 180 centners per hectare. It is recommended to form the bush in cordon form on a high trunk for optimal development and fruiting.
