A selective, systemic post-emergence herbicide designed to efficiently control broadleaf weeds in winter wheat and barley.
Description
Protecting Winter Crops: Field Experience with Amador
Managing weed pressure in winter wheat and barley requires a reliable solution that doesn't stress the crop. Amador is a systemic herbicide that I’ve found to be highly effective at clearing fields of tough broadleaf weeds while maintaining high selectivity, ensuring my cereal crops remain healthy.
Application and Handling
As an operator, I appreciate a product that is easy to manage in the field. Amador comes as a water-suspension concentrate, which mixes easily into a spray tank without clogging nozzles or filters—a common frustration with some other formulations. Classified under hazard class 3, it is straightforward to handle with standard PPE.
This is a selective post-emergence herbicide. It targets weed physiology directly, while the winter wheat and barley remain unaffected. In my operations, I’ve used it to effectively eliminate the following:
- Common lambsquarters and redroot pigweed;
- Field mustard and shepherd's purse;
- Common chickweed and cleavers;
- Purple deadnettle.
Operational Efficiency
The application rate is quite impressive at just 0.02–0.03 kg/ha, making it a very cost-effective solution for large-scale production. It is important to note that only one application per season is permitted. I prefer to apply it as a post-emergence treatment when the weeds are in their active growth phase; this ensures the systemic active ingredient (amidosulfuron) is absorbed rapidly and translocated throughout the weed, leading to swift results. By removing weed competition early, the crop gains better access to essential moisture and nutrients, which is vital for reaching target yields.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
