A selective systemic graminicide based on clethodim for the effective control of annual and perennial grass weeds.
Description
Mechanism of Action and Selectivity of Clethodim
"ANTIZLAK, EC" is based on the active ingredient clethodim, belonging to the cyclohexanedione class. Unlike many other graminicides, clethodim inhibits the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) in the meristematic tissues of grass weeds. This blocks the synthesis of fatty acids required for cell membrane formation. Since dicotyledonous crops do not possess a sensitive form of this enzyme, the product provides high selectivity without suppressing crops such as soy, rapeseed, or potatoes.
Technical Specifications and Formulation
The "Emulsifiable Concentrate" (EC) formulation was chosen for specific performance reasons. Within this formulation, the active ingredient is dissolved in an organic solvent with added surfactants. Upon contact with the weed's leaf surface, the emulsion ensures rapid wetting and prolonged adhesion of the product to the cuticle. Its systemic action allows clethodim to penetrate the leaf blade easily and translocate through the phloem directly to the growth points (rhizomes and young shoots), which is critical for controlling rhizomatous weeds like couch grass.
Practical Application Insights
- Dosage Selection: The range of 0.4–1.6 L/ha allows for flexible protection schemes adapted to the weed spectrum and growth stage. Minimal dosages are sufficient for early stages, while higher rates are required for mature couch grass.
- Timing: The product acts as a post-emergence insurance herbicide. Efficacy is highest when grass weeds are in the 2–4 leaf stage, and perennial species have reached a height of 10–15 cm.
- Limitations: Only one application per season is permitted. This necessitates careful planning of agrotechnical measures and adherence to the recommended temperature range (+15°C to +25°C) during application, as extreme temperatures can reduce clethodim's cuticle permeability.
The manufacturing partnership between “Jiangsu Institute of Ecomones Co. Ltd.” (China) and “Unicity Enterprises L.P.” (UK) has ensured high active ingredient stability within the concentrate, guaranteeing uniform field distribution when following established application technologies.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |
