A reliable soil-applied barrier against broad-leaved weeds in sunflower and pea crops.
Description
Mechanism of Action and Selectivity of "Ailar, SC"
The product is based on the active ingredient aclonifen (600 g/l) formulated as a suspension concentrate. Unlike most soil-applied herbicides, aclonifen disrupts the biosynthesis of carotenoids. This results in bleaching (chlorosis) of weed tissues immediately upon emergence through the treated soil layer. A key technical feature of this product is that it does not translocate within the plant; it is a strictly contact herbicide, which ensures safety for the main crop when application protocols are followed.
Agrotechnical Application Features
- Soil Barrier: The herbicide creates a stable, protective "screen" film on the soil surface. Maximum efficacy depends on soil moisture, as the soil moisture is necessary for the activation of the active ingredients.
- Selectivity: Due to its selective action, Ailar does not suppress sunflower or peas, allowing the seedlings to pass through their early growth stages without competition.
- Application Timing: The product is applied strictly pre-emergence. The maximum number of applications is limited to one per season, which minimizes the pesticide load on soil microbiota.
Practical Usage Recommendations
Application rates vary from 0.5 to 3.0+ l/ha depending on soil texture and weed pressure. On heavy, humus-rich soils, it is recommended to use the upper end of the rate range to form a complete protective "screen." Classified as a Hazard Class 3 product, it requires standard safety measures during handling but remains a highly predictable tool for intensive sunflower and pea production technologies. Using Ailar helps eliminate competition at the start of the vegetation period, which is critical for maximizing yield potential.

Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |

Herbicides are classified according to application timing into pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides. Pre-emergent herbicides are mostly soil-applied or granular formulations applied before the emergence of crop plants. They are applied either pre-sowing (during pre-sowing cu... |
