Description
Why Betanal Expert is a staple for beet production
In sugar and fodder beet farming, there is no room for mistakes when it comes to weeds. My experience with Bayer's Betanal Expert is straightforward: it is a reliable tool that consistently delivers. It is a classic post-emergence herbicide that remains a go-to solution for those who value efficiency and crop safety.
Field Performance and Application
The strength of this herbicide lies in its formula (desmedipham, phenmedipham, and ethofumesate). It is a selective contact herbicide, meaning it hits the weeds precisely where it counts. When dealing with common pests like white goosefoot or green foxtail, the results are consistently clean. Even pale persicaria (smartweed) is manageable if you hit it during the early growth stages.
- Crop Safety: The selective action is its biggest asset. The beet crop shows no signs of stress, stunted growth, or leaf burn, allowing it to put all its energy into yield development.
- Application Flexibility: The emulsion concentrate is easy to mix, and I have never had issues with nozzle clogging. With a dosage range of 0.5 to 1.0 l/ha, you can adjust the rate based on the weed pressure in specific sections of the field.
- Management Strategy: Bayer allows for up to 3 applications, which is perfect for my strategy. I prefer splitting the doses to target successive waves of weeds, ensuring the field stays clean right up to row closure.
Operational Notes
As a post-emergence herbicide, it is my safety net. It operates within the 3rd hazard class, so standard protective gear is all you need. The application process is smooth, and the concentrate handles well in the sprayer. For any farmer looking to remove weed competition without risking the crop's health, this product from Bayer remains a top-tier, field-proven choice.
