The efficiency of weed control in fodder and table beet crops depends on the herbicide's ability to penetrate the waxy layer of the leaves. Betaren Super MD from Frandesa (Republic of Belarus) is a selective systemic preparation based on the synergy of three active ingredients: desmedipham, phenmedipham, and ethofumesate.

Technical Composition Analysis

• Desmedipham and Phenmedipham: Carbamate derivatives that block photosynthesis in weed cells. Their combination ensures high activity even against overgrown or weakened weeds.
• Ethofumesate: A benzofuran derivative that inhibits cell division and meristem formation. Its presence is critical for controlling white goosefoot and redroot pigweed, which are often resistant to simpler herbicide mixtures.

The product is formulated as an emulsifiable concentrate, ensuring uniform distribution of active components in the spray solution and rapid absorption by the leaf surface. As a post-emergence (insurance) herbicide, Betaren Super MD is applied exclusively to actively growing weeds, requiring precise timing for the 1 to 3 allowed seasonal applications.

Practical Application Insights

The selective nature of the herbicide allows the crop to metabolize the active ingredients while simultaneously eliminating competitors such as shepherd's purse, purple dead-nettle, and other annual dicots. The recommended dosage is 1–3 l/ha. Since it is a systemic tool, its effectiveness peaks during active plant sap flow. Using Betaren Super MD minimizes stress on the beet crop when application protocols are followed, making it a foundational solution for intensive root crop cultivation technologies.
