When weeds like lamb's quarters and pigweed begin to dominate fodder beet fields, selecting the right post-emergence herbicide becomes vital. Celmitron 700 from the Dutch company Agrichem B.V. is a tool we rely on for precision control of the most troublesome weeds.

Why this systemic herbicide matters

The primary challenge in beet cultivation is its vulnerability during early growth stages. The systemic action of metamitron (700 g/l) allows the product to quickly penetrate weeds through the leaf surface, effectively blocking photosynthesis. Unlike soil-applied herbicides, this post-emergence product works precisely when weeds are already actively growing. We have observed high efficacy against cleavers, field pansy, and purple dead-nettle—species that can easily choke the crop if left untreated.

Application and dosing

Working with a suspension concentrate requires strict attention to dosage. Depending on the weed density and the plant's growth stage, the rate varies from 2 to 6 liters per hectare. A pro-tip: aim for the cotyledon to first true leaf stage of the weeds. This timing allows for the use of minimum effective concentrations.

The product's flexibility lies in the possibility of split applications: up to three treatments per season are allowed. This helps adapt to staggered weed emergence, which is crucial in wet years. Classified as hazard class 3, it requires standard protective measures, but the formulation is highly stable and does not cause tank residue issues when the stock solution is mixed correctly.
