Effective Weed Control for Beet Crops

When cultivating fodder or table beets, weed control is a critical factor for yield. My choice over the last few seasons has been 'Goltex Gold MS' from the Israeli manufacturer Adama Agan Ltd. This selective systemic herbicide has proven itself to be a reliable partner in ensuring the crop develops without competing with weeds for moisture and nutrients.

Field Experience and Selectivity

The main advantage of this product is its selectivity. As a post-emergence herbicide, it is gentle on the beets while being aggressive against weeds. With up to 3 applications, I can effectively eliminate problematic invaders like common lambsquarters, redroot pigweed, common shepherd's purse, and common chickweed. It is also highly effective against cleavers, scentless chamomile, and common ragweed.

Operational Tips

• Dosage Flexibility: The application rate ranges from 1 to 5 liters per hectare, depending on weed pressure and crop development stage. This allows for cost-efficient application tailored to specific field conditions.
• Handling: The suspension concentrate formula is easy to mix. It creates a stable solution that does not clog sprayer nozzles, making the daily maintenance of the equipment much easier.
• Precision Application: Being a leaf-applied herbicide, timing is key. I prioritize spraying while weeds are in their early growth stages to maximize efficacy and minimize the required amount of product.

For me, 'Goltex Gold MS' is about predictable results. While it requires standard safety precautions due to its hazard class, the protection it provides is well worth the effort. It allows me to maintain clean rows throughout the critical early vegetation period without causing phytotoxicity to the beet crop.
