Protecting sugar and fodder beet crops requires a balance between high selectivity and a broad spectrum of efficacy. «Lavina» by Frandesa is a complex multi-component herbicide containing desmedipham, phenmedipham, ethofumesate, and metamitron. This synergy allows for the control of key weed species, such as common lambsquarters, redroot pigweed, field mustard, and shepherd's purse, without causing phytotoxicity to the crop itself.

The Science of the Formula

• Systemic and Contact Synergy: The product utilizes a dual mechanism. Contact components (desmedipham, phenmedipham) penetrate the leaf surface of young weeds, causing rapid photosynthetic failure. The systemic component (ethofumesate) is absorbed through the root system and sprouts, providing residual control.
• High Selectivity: Designed as a selective herbicide, its chemical structure allows beet plants to neutralize the active ingredients, while weed species lack these metabolic pathways, leading to their elimination.
• Suspension Concentrate: The formulation as a suspension concentrate ensures high stability of the tank mix, excellent leaf adhesion, and resistance to being washed off by precipitation.

Application Strategy

Classified as a hazard class 3 agent, «Lavina» is designed for post-emergence application. Efficacy is highly dependent on weed growth stages; the optimal window is between the cotyledon stage and two true leaves of the weed. Up to 3 applications per season are permitted, with a dosage rate of 1–3 liters per hectare. Due to its complex composition, precise sprayer calibration is critical to ensure uniform coverage and avoid overlap or gaps, maximizing the herbicide's potential.
