Systemic suppression of grass weeds through lipid synthesis inhibition.
Description
Systemic action of Clethodim
Kletomex, developed by the Austrian manufacturer F. Agrotech GmbH, is a selective systemic herbicide based on clethodim. Unlike contact pesticides, the active ingredient in Kletomex is rapidly absorbed by the foliage and translocated through the phloem directly to the weed's growth points. This mechanism is essential for eradicating perennial grasses like couch grass (Elymus repens), where complete destruction of the root system is required.
Technical Advantages
- Mode of Action: The herbicide inhibits lipid synthesis in weed cells, causing irreversible growth cessation within hours of application.
- Selectivity: Designed as a post-emergence insurance herbicide, Kletomex targets specific grass weeds while leaving broad-leaved crops such as soybeans, sunflowers, fodder beets, and potatoes unaffected.
- Formulation: The emulsifiable concentrate formulation ensures excellent solution stability and superior leaf adhesion, effectively resisting wash-off from light rain.
Application Strategy
The efficacy of Kletomex is highly dependent on the growth stage of the target weeds. The most vulnerable phase is the 2-to-4-leaf stage. Due to its systemic nature, the product maintains high performance even when environmental conditions are suboptimal for the weeds. Classified under hazard class 3, the product is suitable for standard agro-industrial applications when handled with appropriate safety protocols.

By type of action
Depending on their ability to move through living tissues, herbicides are divided into contact and systemic. Contact herbicides cause local damage to plant tissue upon contact, which dies or gradually degrades. This action does not always completely destroy the plant; often, its... |

Herbicides are classified according to application timing into pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides. Pre-emergent herbicides are mostly soil-applied or granular formulations applied before the emergence of crop plants. They are applied either pre-sowing (during pre-sowing cu... |
